got a hydraulic line running JIC on one end and BSPP on the other, will this fitting connect the two without needing tape or thread sealant?

No sealant or tape needed on this one. The elastomeric seal built into the fitting handles the sealing on the BSPP side, so you're not wrapping threads or chasing leaks from over-tightening. Just make sure your JIC flare is clean and seated properly and you should be good to go.
