Got a piece of equipment running BSPP fittings on one end and JIC on the other, will this adapter bridge that gap straight through without needing extra pieces in between?

That's what this one does. One end is 1/4" JIC with a 7/16-20 UNF thread, and the other is 3/8" BSPP running a G 3/8-19 thread. Both ends are male, so you're connecting it directly between two female ports. No extra union or coupler needed, just a single straight adapter doing the conversion in one shot.
