got a hose end that’s 7/16-20 JIC male, will this adapter mate up right?

Side 1 on this piece is a 7/16-20 UNF male JIC in the 1/4 inch size, and side 2 is a G 3/8-19 male BSPP in the 3/8 inch size, so it is meant to bridge those two thread standards in a straight adapter.

Will this fitting work with both JIC and BSPP setups, or do I need different adapters for each?

It's designed with a 7/16 - 20 UNF male JIC on one side and a G 3/8 - 19 male BSPP on the other, so it'll handle both those connection types directly without needing extra adapters.

Got a machine running JIC fittings on one end but the hydraulic supply line coming off the pump is BSPP, does this adapter handle that kind of crossover, or do I need something else in between?

That crossover is exactly what this fitting is built for. One end is a 7/16-20 UNF male JIC and the other is a G 3/8-19 male BSPP, so it connects those two thread standards directly with no additional adapters needed. The washer and O-ring are included and provide the sealing on the BSPP side, which is standard practice for that thread type.
