got two ports that dont match up, 2 inch bspp on one side and 1-1/2 on the other. is this the piece that steps it down?

For tying those two BSPP sizes together inline, it fits that job. One end is a male G 2 - 11 thread (2 inch) and the other end is a male G 1-1/2 - 11 thread (1-1/2 inch), so it acts as a straight reducing nipple between the two port sizes.
