got a groove cut for a -225 o-ring, is this the same thing or am i off a size

Match it up by dash size and dimensions. This is a -225 Buna-N O-ring in 90 durometer with nominal dimensions of 1-7/8 inch ID, 2-1/8 inch OD, and 1/8 inch width. The actual measured size is about 1.859 inch ID, 2.137 inch OD, and 0.139 inch width, so it lines up with a -225 fit.

These rated for oil exposure, or do they break down after a while like cheaper rubber rings tend to do?

Buna-N is one of the better elastomers for oil and fuel contact. At 90 durometer, this particular ring is on the firmer side, which helps it hold its shape under pressure rather than extruding or deforming over time. The material handles petroleum-based hydraulic fluids well, so breakdown from oil exposure isn't a concern under normal operating conditions.
