what's the size difference between the two ends on this nipple? trying to figure out if it'll work as a reducer between two lines

One end is 1/2" male BSPT with an R 1/2 - 14 thread callout, and the other end is 3/8" male BSPT with an R 3/8 - 19 callout. So yes, it does step down between those two sizes. Both ends are male BSPT, and the fitting is made from brass with a straight body. Overall length runs 31.1 mm with a 22 mm width across the flats for wrenching.

Trying to hook a 1/2 BSPT port up to a 3/8 BSPT line, is this the right little nipple for that?

For stepping between BSPT sizes, this fitting matches a 1/2 inch male BSPT on one end and a 3/8 inch male BSPT on the other. The thread callouts are R 1/2 - 14 and R 3/8 - 19, so it is meant for BSPT connections on both sides.
