Will this fitting hold up with hydraulic fluid? I'm using it on a piece of machinery that gets pretty hot.

It's made from AISI/SAE 12L14 carbon steel with a Weathercote finish. This finish resists damage from nonflammable hydraulic fluids, and the fitting can handle temperatures from -65°F to +400°F at max pressure. It's even been used at higher temperatures, up to 800°F, depending on the tube size and pressure.

what kind of tubing does this fitting actually work with? got some extra heavy wall steel tube i need to connect up and wasn't sure if it needed to be flared first

No flaring needed on this one. The 7000 Series Ermeto is built specifically for tubing that cannot be flared, so extra heavy wall steel is right in its wheelhouse. It also works with aluminum, hard or half copper, stainless steel, and standard steel tubing. Just make sure your tube OD matches the 0.375 inch size this fitting is rated for.
