What exactly is this control piston used for on a Vickers pump? Just trying to get a handle on its purpose.

In a Vickers piston pump, the control piston manages the pump's output flow and pressure. It's how the pump responds to system demands.

got a Vickers piston pump that needs a new control piston, part 690804 is what I'm seeing listed as the replacement. that the right part or am I looking at the wrong thing?

Part number 690804 is the Vickers by Danfoss/Eaton control piston for their piston pump line. It's sold as an accessory component for those pumps specifically, so if your pump calls out that part number, you're looking at the right item. Just match it against your pump's parts list before ordering and you should be good to go.
