brass fitting here, male 3/8-24 MPT on one end going into a female hose or tube connection on the other -- that right for this part?

that's the correct read on it. One end is a 3/8-24 NPTF male thread, and the other end accepts a hose, line, or tube on the female side with a hex size of 0.813 inches.
