got a JIC main line feeding into an ORB-ported valve block, would this tee let me branch off without throwing an adapter in the middle?

That's exactly what this fitting is built for. The run ports are male JIC 37° flare, so they drop right into your existing JIC line, and the branch port is male ORB, which connects direct to your ORB-ported component. No extra adapter sitting in between means fewer potential leak points in the circuit, which matters once you're running pressure through it.
