thread sizes on this one got me second-guessing myself. the male end is the bigger of the two, right?

Correct. The male SAE O-ring Boss thread measures 1-1/16-12, and the female end is the smaller 7/8-14. So yeah, you're stepping down from the larger male side to the smaller female side. Both threads are built to SAE J514 spec, and the NBR O-ring seal is already part of the fitting, so no separate seal is needed on assembly.

trying to step a 12 MORB port down to a 10 ORB, is this the right bushing or am i mixing things up

For a straight ORB reducer, this one matches that setup. It has a 1-1/16-12 male SAE O-ring Boss on one side (B1) and a 7/8-14 female SAE O-ring Boss on the other side (B2), both to SAE J514.
