What kind of thread does this plug run, and is it gonna seal up proper without a bunch of extra tape or compound?

It runs a 1/2-20 male SAE O-ring boss thread built to SAE J514 spec. The sealing is handled by the NBR O-ring that comes with it, so you don't need thread tape or sealant compound on top of it. O-ring boss fittings seal on the O-ring itself, not the threads, which is what makes them reliable in hydraulic applications where you need a clean, predictable seal every time.
