NPSM is a straight mechanical thread, so it relies on a mating fitting or surface to create the seal rather than thread taper the way NPT does. NPT threads are tapered and generate a seal through thread interference, which is a different sealing method entirely. If your port or hose end is NPT, this fitting won't give you a proper seal. Make sure the female side of your connection is also NPSM before ordering.
