thread on the male end is 1/2-20 SAE O-Ring Boss -- does that mean it's got the o-ring built in or do I need to supply one separate?

The o-ring is part of the sealing setup on that male ORB end, and the seal material is NBR. Whether the o-ring ships already seated in the groove or needs to be placed during installation can vary, but the fitting is built to use an o-ring face seal on that thread, so have your NBR o-ring ready when you go to install it.
