got a male JIC on one end and need to step down to a 9/16-18 ORB port, this the right piece for that?

That's what this adapter does. One end is a 1-1/16-12 male JIC SAE 37-degree flare, and the other is a 9/16-18 male SAE O-ring boss. Both ends conform to SAE J514, so if your system is built to that spec, you're good to go.
