It's made to fit Male JIC SAE 37 Degree flare threads, so you should be good to go with standard JIC connections.

trying to hook a JIC line to an ORB port, is this the right straight adapter for that?

It’s a straight adapter that goes from a Male JIC SAE 37 degree flare on one end to a Male SAE O-Ring Boss on the other. The JIC side is 7/16-20, and the ORB side is 7/8-14, both called out to SAE J514.

rated for 5,000 psi on this one -- that hold up running hydraulic lines on heavy equipment all day, or is that more of a peak number?

5,000 psi is the maximum dynamic pressure rating, so it's built to handle that load during normal operating conditions, not just at peak spikes. For continuous-duty hydraulic circuits on heavy equipment, that rating covers most standard high-pressure systems without issue. The straight steel construction and NBR o-ring seal are both suited for sustained use, not just occasional connections.
