Is this transmission a direct replacement for the older Eaton Model 6?

This Danfoss/Eaton Model 6 transmission carries the same form factor as the original Eaton part. So, it should slot right in.

what exactly is the difference between the Eaton Model 6 and whatever Danfoss is calling it now? same unit or did something change when they rebranded?

Danfoss acquired the Eaton hydraulics line and brought it under the Danfoss Power Solutions name. The unit itself carries both names because of that transition. What you're looking at with the 600-006 is the same Model 6 transmission that was sold under the Eaton Char-Lynn brand, just now sourced and listed under Danfoss. No functional change to the product, just the brand header above it.
