fitting's got a 45 degree angle on it -- does that mean the BSPP side can still be rotated to point whichever direction I need before I lock it down?

Yeah, that adjustable feature is exactly what makes this fitting useful in tighter spots. The BSPP male side can be swiveled to whatever orientation works for your routing before you lock it in place. So even with the 45-degree elbow built into the body, you've still got that positional flexibility on the G 1/2-14 end. Makes a real difference when you're working around existing lines or frame members and a fixed-angle fitting just won't cooperate.
