Product Questions & Answers

what exactly is a backup ring used for in a hydraulic setup, and does the urethane material hold up better than rubber ones I've used before?
Question by: Rod M on May 17, 2025, 6:46 PM
Backup rings sit behind a primary seal to stop it from extruding into the clearance gap under pressure. Urethane at 90A durometer is noticeably firmer than standard rubber, which means it resists that gap extrusion better in higher-pressure situations. Hercules Sealing Products has a solid reputation for dimensional consistency on these, so you're getting a reliable part from a well-regarded sealing manufacturer.

What exactly is this ring made of? I'm seeing "urethane" but is there anything else?
Question by: Shane H on Jul 12, 2025, 7:43 PM
It's a 90A durometer urethane, nothing else to it. Solid construction.
