got a #6 male pipe thread on one side and need a matching female, is this the straight steel piece that does that

For joining a male NPTF to a female NPTF in a straight, rigid connection, this fitting matches that setup. It uses a male NPTF thread on one end and a female NPTF thread on the other, both 3/8-18 per SAE J476.

What kind of threads are on both ends of this fitting, and are they the same size all the way around?

Both ends carry 3/8-18 NPTF threads, male on one side and female on the other, both built to SAE J476 spec. So yes, same thread size on each end. The male end threads into a female port, and the female end accepts a male fitting, which is pretty much what you'd expect from a straight expander used to extend or adapt a threaded run.
