trying to hook two female ports together, is this nipple male pipe thread on both ends?

Both ends are male NPTF threads, sized 1-1/2-11-1/2, and they follow the SAE J476 thread specification.

got a 1-1/2 inch NPTF fitting on both ends of a pipe section i need to bridge, this hex nipple gonna work for that?

Male NPTF threads on both ends, sized at 1-1/2-11-1/2, so yeah, that's exactly the kind of application it's built for. Both sides conform to SAE J476, which means you're getting a dry-seal thread connection that holds well under pressure. Rated to 3,000 psi dynamic, so most standard hydraulic line work at that pipe size won't push it past its limits.
