does this fitting work for 1-1/2 inch NPTF connections on both ends, or is one end a different size?

Both ends are 1-1/2 inch, 11-1/2 threads per inch, male NPTF. Same size all the way through, so you're threading male into female NPTF ports on both sides of whatever you're joining up.

Both ends are male NPTF threads, and they are the same size: 1-1/2-11-1/2 per SAE J476, so it is a straight male-to-male hex nipple in that thread size.
