What size threads does this fittin' use?

both ends on this nipple got male NPTF threads, or is one of 'em a different type?

Both ends are male NPTF, conforming to SAE J476. One side is 1-1/2-11-1/2 and the other is 1-11-1/2, so you're working with a reducing nipple that steps down between those two thread sizes. Good choice when you need to connect two female ports of different sizes without adding extra adapters in the line.

trying to replace a hex nipple i pulled off, is this one NPTF on both ends and what sizes are we talking?

Both ends are male NPTF threads built to SAE J476. The B1 end is 1-1/2-11-1/2 and the B2 end is 1-11-1/2, so it is a straight steel hex nipple meant to join two different NPTF female ports.
