both sides on this fitting are M22 x 1.5 thread -- so it'll connect two DIN tube lines of the same size together at a 90 degree angle, right?

Correct on all counts. Both sides are M22 x 1.5, both are S14 DIN tube connections, and the 90 degree elbow shape lets you route one line perpendicular to the other. The swivel feature on the female side means you can adjust the orientation during installation without fighting the fitting to get it lined up, which saves a fair amount of hassle in tight spots.
