both sides on this fitting are M12 x 1.5 thread, does that mean it connects two lines with the same size DIN tube ends?

Correct on that. Both sides carry the same M12 x 1.5 thread and L06 sizing, so you're working with matched DIN tube connections on each end. One side is male, the other is female, which lets it swivel and join two lines of the same spec at a 90 degree angle. Good fit when you need to make a direction change without stepping up or down in size.
