Wondering if this adapter is solid brass?

It's made from brass, yes, and has a Dura-Kote plating to help fight off corrosion.

does this adapter go from a 45 degree flare fitting on one end to a pipe thread on the other, or are both ends the same type?

One end is SAE 45 degree flare, male, at 7/16 inch. The other end is a male NPTF pipe thread at 1/8 inch. So yes, you're connecting two different fitting types, which is pretty much the whole point of a fitting like this. Handy when you're tying a hydraulic or fuel line into a port that takes standard pipe thread.
