Does this coupling actually hold up when you connect it while the line's still pressurized, or do you have to bleed the system down first?

Pressurized connections are supported up to 500 psi, so you can mate the halves without shutting the system down first. That's one of the bigger advantages on working equipment like dump trucks and refuse vehicles where downtime adds up fast. The tubular valve construction keeps fluid loss to a minimum during disconnection too, which means less mess and less wasted fluid on the ground.
