trying to swap out an elbow union i’ve got now. are both ends on this one M22 x 1.5 male?

Both connections are M22 x 1.5 male, and it is a 90° elbow DIN tube union with L15 on Side 1 and Side 2.

Correct on both counts. Each end carries an M22 x 1.5 male thread, and both sides are sized at L15 for DIN tube connections. The fitting is symmetric in that regard, so no need to worry about matching a male side to a female side at either end.
