fella at the shop said we need something to go from a DIN tube fitting over to an SAE O-ring boss port, this the right part for that?

That's what this one does. One end connects to an M16 x 1.5 DIN tube fitting and the other end is a 7/16-20 UNF male SAE O-ring boss. Both sides are male, and the shape is straight through, so there's no angle or offset involved. If your tube side is L10 and your port side is a 1/4 inch SAE ORB, you're looking at the right fitting.

trying to swap a metric tube line over to an ORB port, is this the right adapter for M16 x 1.5 to 7/16-20?

For that exact mix of threads, it matches up. Side 1 is a M16 x 1.5 DIN tube connection (size L10) and side 2 is a 7/16-20 UNF male SAE O-ring boss (1/4 inch).
