Both sides got the same M52 x 2.0 thread on 'em, so this is meant to join two DIN tube ends straight inline, right? Not an adapter between different thread sizes or nothin like that?

Correct on all counts. Both sides are identical, M52 x 2.0 thread with an S38 size designation, so you're working with a symmetric male-to-male connection. It's strictly for joining two matching DIN tube ends in a straight inline configuration. If your circuit needs a thread conversion or a different size on one end, this particular union wouldn't be the right pick.
