Does this union need any thread tape or sealant when you put it together, or does it just thread up clean as-is?

No sealant is needed on this one. The M22 x 1.5 DIN tube connections on both ends are designed to make a secure fit without thread compound or tape, which cuts down on prep time and keeps the assembly cleaner. Just thread it up and you're good to go.
