Does this fitting need any kind of calibration or torque setup before putting it to work, or does it just go on straight?

No calibration or adjustment needed on this one. It's ready to install as-is, which makes it a pretty easy swap into most hydraulic assemblies. The JIC 37 female swivel end connects to your line on one side, and the hose end takes a -6 dash size hose. Hex size is 0.875, so standard wrenching gets you there without any fuss.

got a hose with a -6 end, is this the right fitting for it or am i off a size

For hose sizing, it matches a -6 hose dash size. On the threaded end, it is a JIC 37 degree female swivel with a 0.75 inch end size, so you will want that to line up with the JIC male it is mating to.
