does this fitting need any thread sealant when you're putting it together, or is it good to go as-is?

No sealant required. The NPTF thread on the male end is a dry-seal design, so it forms a pressure-tight connection through thread interference alone. Just make sure the mating threads are clean and in good condition before assembly.

trying to swap out a fitting, is this one a -12 hose end with a 3/4 NPTF male thread?
