what's the material on this fitting and does it have any kind of corrosion protection built in?

Carbon steel all the way through, and it comes with Dura-Kote plating already applied. That coating gives it solid corrosion resistance right out of the box, which helps stretch the life of the hose assembly and cuts down on how often you're pulling things apart for maintenance.
