does the Dura-Kote plating on this fitting hold up decent in environments where corrosion is a real concern, or is that more of a marketing thing

Dura-Kote is a legitimate corrosion-resistant plating applied to the carbon steel body, not just a label. It's specifically engineered into this fitting to extend the working life of the hose assembly in conditions where rust and surface degradation would otherwise be a problem. Carbon steel on its own is vulnerable over time, so the plating does real work here.
