This fitting says it's a permanent type, does that mean there's no way to reuse it once it's crimped onto a hose?

Permanent fittings like this one are meant to stay put once they're assembled. They're not designed to be removed and reattached, so you'd replace the whole hose assembly if something goes wrong rather than swapping just the fitting. That's actually pretty standard for this style, and it's part of what keeps the connection solid over time.
