It's designed for use with hose assemblies and supports a hose dash size -24, which indicates the inner diameter of the hose it's compatible with.

does the 90 degree angle on this flange fitting actually help with hose wear over time, or is that just marketing talk

Carbon steel fittings with a straight connection can put a lot of stress on the hose at the point where it bends away from the port. The 90 degree flange end on this fitting lets the hose run in a more natural direction right from the start, which takes that bend stress off the assembly and genuinely does extend hose life in real installations.
