fitting's got a flanged end on one side and a hose end on the other, is that right, or am I reading it wrong?

Carbon steel construction with Dura-Kote plating covers the corrosion side of things, and yes, the end configuration is flanged on one end and line/hose/tube on the other. That CAT flange 90 elbow geometry means you're getting a right-angle turn built into the fitting itself, which helps a lot when routing hose in tighter quarters. The -16 dash size tells you the hose bore this fitting is sized for, so make sure your hose matches up on that before ordering.
