fitting's got Dura-Kote plating on it -- does that actually hold up in wet or muddy conditions, or is that more of a marketing thing?

Dura-Kote is a legitimate corrosion-resistant plating, not just a label. On carbon steel fittings like this one, bare metal rusts fast when it sees moisture, grit, or road spray. The plating puts a barrier between the steel and whatever the environment throws at it, which is why Eaton Aeroquip uses it specifically to extend hose assembly life. It won't make the fitting bulletproof against every chemical, but for typical outdoor industrial exposure, mud, moisture, and general weathering, it holds up considerably better than uncoated alternatives.
