fitting says 4-wire spiral, does that mean it's only gonna work with spiral hose or can it go on other types too?

Four-wire spiral fittings are matched to four-wire spiral hose constructions. The dash size here is -12, so you'd pair it with a -12 four-wire spiral hose. Trying to crimp it onto a different hose type or a different dash size isn't something this fitting is built for, and you'd risk a bad assembly that won't hold up under pressure.
