got a mini excavator and a crawler dozer both needing pumps, would this 420 series unit work on either one of those machines?

Both of those applications are right in the wheelhouse for this pump. Mini excavators and crawler dozers are specifically listed as equipment this unit is built to handle. The X20 open circuit design is suited for mobile hydraulic duty where load conditions vary, which is pretty much the nature of both those machines. If your system is set up for an open-circuit piston pump at 3.80 CID (62 cc) displacement, this would be a solid fit for either one.
