clear braided pvc hose, 1 inch. is that the inside size or outside?

what exactly is the "braided" part about on this hose, is that just for looks or does it actually do something?

The braiding is a reinforcement layer woven into the hose wall. On a clear PVC hose like this one, it adds structural support so the hose holds its shape under pressure and resists kinking, which plain-wall clear PVC tubing tends to do without it. You also get better durability against crushing if something bumps or rolls over the line. The clear outer layer still lets you see flow, so you keep that visibility benefit while getting a sturdier build.
