got a setup that needs counterclockwise rotation, is this pump built for that or am i asking for trouble

Rotation is set up for CCW on this model, so it matches a counterclockwise drive requirement.

pump's rated at 46 GPM and 3000 PSI max -- is that enough grunt for a plastic injection molding setup running pretty much all day?

The VQ series was built specifically for high-pressure, high-speed industrial applications, and plastic injection molding is one of the listed application types for this unit. The Buna-N seals hold up well against standard hydraulic oils, and the design emphasizes volumetric efficiency, which matters a lot when you need consistent flow over long production runs. Just make sure your prime mover is matched to the 2500 RPM speed rating and you should be in good shape.
