fitting goes on a 1 inch hose barb side, but what size is the pipe thread end coming off it?

The pipe thread end on this fitting is 3/4 inch male pipe thread. So you've got a 1 inch hose barb on one end connecting to your hose, and a 3/4 inch male pipe thread on the other end threading into your port or fitting. That size reduction is built right into the part, so no extra reducer needed between those two connections.
