flow rate on this one tops out at 42 gpm if I'm reading it right -- that accurate for refuse hauler setups or is that the peak under ideal conditions?

The 160 L/min (42 USgpm) rating is the upper end of what this valve handles, and it holds up well in refuse hauler applications, which is one of the uses it was built around. That ceiling gives you solid headroom for most mobile hydraulic circuits running in that environment, so you're not pushing it to the edge under normal operating demands.
