got a refuse hauler that needs a new pressure control valve and space is real tight around the mounting area, does this one run pretty compact?

Compact is kind of the whole point of the RV1-8 series. The 1/4" port size keeps the footprint small, and the design was built around installations where you just don't have a lot of room to work with. Refuse haulers are actually one of the listed applications for this valve, so it fits right into that kind of use case without needing any workarounds for space.
