Will this nipple work alright to connect a 1/2" pipe down to a 3/8" one?
Question by: Howard S on Oct 19, 2025, 6:24 AM
That's exactly what it's for. It's designed to reduce from a 1/2" NPT thread to a 3/8" NPT thread.

got a 1/2 npt port but my hose end is 3/8 npt. is this the right little adapter to step it down?

For stepping down between those two thread sizes, this is the right kind of fitting. It is a hex reducing nipple with 1/2 inch NPT on one end and 3/8 inch NPT on the other, so it bridges a 1/2 NPT connection to a 3/8 NPT connection in the same line.

Got a 1/2" port on a manifold block that I need to step down to 3/8" for a smaller line. This the right piece for that job?

That's what this nipple is built for. It threads into your 1/2" NPT port on one end and accepts a 3/8" NPT fitting on the other, giving you a solid threaded reduction right at the connection point. The hex body means you can get a wrench on it without worrying about crushing or deforming it during tightening, which is a real advantage over round-body styles when you're working in tight quarters on a manifold.
