got a line running 1/4 inch pipe thread going into a fitting that's only got 1/8 inch on the other side, this the right reducer for that?

That's what this fitting does. One end is 1/4 inch male pipe thread, the other is 1/8 inch male pipe thread, so it steps the connection down between those two sizes. It's a Midland Industries piece, part number 28220L, and it's built for hydraulic applications. If your setup has those two thread sizes needing to talk to each other, this one fits the bill.

Good fit when you need to step between two male pipe thread sizes. One end is 1/4 inch male pipe thread and the other end is 1/8 inch male pipe thread, so it bridges those two sizes in a hydraulic setup.
