Will this fitting hold up okay in a hydraulic system for a log splitter? I don't want anything that's gonna leak or crack under pressure.

Forged steel construction gives this fitting good strength for hydraulic applications. Just be sure the pressure rating of your splitter is within what the fitting material can handle.

got a bulkhead setup with 9/16-18 JIC on both sides. is this the 45 degree elbow that fits that?

With 9/16-18 male JIC 37 degree flare threads on both ends, it matches a #6 MJIC to #6 MJIC bulkhead 45 degree elbow style and is built to SAE J514.

both ends on this fitting are male JIC? trying to figure out if i need a nut on each side or if thats handled some other way

Correct on the thread type. Both ends are male JIC 37-degree flare, 9/16-18, built to SAE J514. The "NO NUT" in the name means the bulkhead nuts are not included with this fitting, so you'll need to source those separately to secure it through a panel or bulkhead wall. The fitting itself handles the 45-degree angle and the bulkhead pass-through, but the clamping hardware is on you to supply.
