pump says it's field reversible, what does that actually mean for someone swapping this into an existing setup?

Reversing the pump direction in the field means you can change which port acts as the inlet and which acts as the outlet without sending the unit back for modification or buying a different model. Practically speaking, if your system runs the shaft clockwise and you need counterclockwise, or the hydraulic connections on your machine is routed opposite to what a standard configuration expects, you can make that adjustment on-site. That kind of flexibility saves real time when you're retrofitting this into a machine that wasn't originally spec'd around this unit.
